Interview with Jonid Hametaj (CFO at Squirrel Wallet) and Korath Wright (Director of Capital Markets at Gamma Prime)
In this interview, Jonid Hametaj, CFO of Squirrel Wallet, discusses bridging traditional finance with blockchain innovation. He shares insights on the need for faster financial systems, stronger due diligence, and how events like Tokenized Capital Summit at TOKEN2049 Singapore are bringing Wall Street and crypto closer together.
Jonid Hametaj (Squirrel Wallet):
Well, my name is Jonid Hametaj. I’m the CFO of an exciting project called Squirrel Wallet. We launched on the App Store and Android, having passed the highest standards for tokenization. We launched our token two days ago, which we’re very excited about.
I’ve been in capital markets my whole life, working as a forensic auditor on special projects before moving into blockchain and crypto over the past three years. It’s an exciting space because it opens new opportunities and financial channels — the future of our financial institutions. Bringing experience from traditional markets and forensic auditing into a highly securitized environment is truly fascinating.
Korath (Gamma Prime):
With your traditional finance background and your vision for the future, where do you see things going?
Jonid:
I’m ambitious, but I think we’re on the right path. We’re making real progress — governments are getting involved, and politicians are pushing for change. Financial institutions must evolve to make transactions faster.
As I like to say: if our decision-making moves faster than our money, we’re doing something wrong. That’s the issue with traditional markets today. By utilizing blockchain and cryptocurrencies, we can make transactions — and thus decisions — much faster. This is the future we’re heading toward.
Korath:
What’s still needed for us to get there?
Jonid:
Due diligence is crucial. In any new market, there are always some bad actors. Unfortunately, we still see a lot of rug pulls. But as we standardize and get municipalities to provide the same assurances as in capital markets, we’ll be able to remove those bad apples, attract new investors, and strengthen the ecosystem.
Korath:
And what do you think of the Tokenized Capital Summit here at TOKEN2049?
Jonid:
It’s an amazing event — Singapore is the perfect venue. What I really like is seeing more financial professionals joining the space. It’s not just digital tech or dev teams anymore — we’re now talking about real-world assets, asset categorization, and recognition. That’s exciting from a financial industry perspective.
We’re bridging the gap between Wall Street and cryptocurrency, bringing them closer together. I’m also excited to meet the people here and hear new ideas, especially in the financial sector. This summit is the perfect platform for that.
Korath:
We’re happy to have you here — thanks for joining us.
Jonid:
Thank you. Hi, this is Jonid from Squirrel Wallet, and this is Gamma Prime — you should be here.
